In this activity, students will have fun with dominoes and practice distinguishing between digital and analog clock faces.
Materials
Objective: Students will match analog clock faces with the correct digital time.
Activity Description
Group students in pairs. Give each pair a set of time dominoes.
Explain to students that they are going to practice matching analog clocks with digital clocks. Post an example of a correct match on the board or a document camera.
Have students begin the game by choosing 4 dominoes each. Leave the rest of the dominoes in the center of the table face down(this is called the "bone yard"). Students should begin the domino game with the tile that says "start". Students take turns putting down dominoes, instruct them to verbally say the time as they place the dominoes. If a student does not have a match, they must draw a domino from the "bone yard" until they have a match. The game ends when all of the dominoes have been placed and the final domino says "end".
Assessment
As student are completing the activity, circulate the classroom. You should hear students correctly identifying the time on the domino.
Strategies for Differentiation:
If students are still struggling telling the time, post a cheat sheet of digital and analog times on the board or document camera for reference.
